If you are looking up for an effective self defence, this is the place.
Rapid Assault Tactics, also known as R.A.T, is the brainchild of renowned Jeet Kune Do & Kali instructor Paul Vunak and was conceived for the US Special Forces and elite law enforcement.
What is so special about the Rapid Assault Tactics (RAT)? Created to be simple and effective in the most difficult situations. RAT is contemporary Jeet Kune Do and focuses on making a few skills work in all situations and not having to learn a 1000 moves. The RAT is simple to learn and the basic concept can be taught within a few seminars.
Rapid Assault Tactics at The FightLab is taught by Level 1 R.A.T Instructor Mark Rawson
Jeet Kune Do Concepts
Incorporating Bruce Lee’s original Jeet Kune Do Concepts, Filipino Kali & other martial arts. The R.A.T uses the most effective tools on the body to engage an attacker. The R.A.T makes heavy use of Bruce Lee's 'Straight Blast' as well as Headbutts, Knees & Elbows all used in clinching and trapping range. When people attack each other to hurt each other they clinch. If you control the head you control the body. This is why the R.A.T works the clinch so much.
Self Defence needs to become part of your regular workout to keep you skills & fitness sharpened.
- Learn the skills needed in in a standup street fight
- Defences are taught against all manner of attacks and threats from all around the body as well as sitting or lying
- Releases from dangerous grabs such as chokes, strangles, headlocks are covered
He called this approach R.A.T. which stands for Rapid Assault Tactics. The U.S. Navy SEALS brought Paul in to teach them his unique system after an extensive worldwide search for the best hand-to-hand combat during the 80's. Paul Vunak 's R.A.T method has since been adopted by the SEALS, FBI, and CIA and a dozen police department SWAT teams.
Reality focused training
Today R.A.T is adopted as a staple in self defence program all over the world by martial artist from different styles. Paul Vunak continues this process of growth with what he calls Contemporary Jeet Kune Do. A military based, battle proven approach to fighting that encompasses the full spectrum of what one would consider self defence.
A unique blend of striking arts like Thai Boxing and grappling arts like Brazilian Jiu-jitsu into the JKD formula. We have also adopted Kali for weapons, Kina Mutai (the Filipino art of biting and eye gouging) and other methods into our mixed martial arts.
Who Can Benefit?
Everyone! The ability to improve your situation when you find yourself in a bad one is not just for people of a certain age, gender or fitness level. Because anyone can be targeted by an attacker, everyone deserves the ability to improve their defences. Prior experience isn’t necessary to learn real life self defence.
A lot of people will not take a self defence course because they think it’s too hard or they don’t have enough experience. R.A.T. was created for the widest range of students. The following is a brief list of occupations, ages and experiences of some of our R.A.T. graduates:
